Rick is facing a critical battle—he needs both a heart and a kidney transplant to survive. The medical costs, and time away from work are overwhelming.

Hey everyone, I'm sorry I haven't done this sooner. I'm still kinda figuring it out myself. A little over a month ago, my doctors told me that I have End Stage Renal Disease. So, in addition to my heart, my kidneys are starting to fail. To survive, I now need both heart and kidney transplants imminently.

We're currently working on all of the paperwork and stuff for the heart transplant and have the first of what I'm sure will be many consultations with OHSU at the end of the coming month.

There's not a whole lot anyone can do so early in this process, except sit back and try to absorb as much info as I can. Fortunately, being out of work, I have plenty of time to try and figure out how we are going to survive this financially, and also emotionally.

I can't lie, it's a lot. I'm doing my best to keep my faith in God and not be overwhelmed by the negative thoughts that creep in too often. But I just have to remember that God is powerful, and I am strong. I've built a great life based on knowing those things, and I've surrounded myself with amazing friends to help remind me when I do forget.
