Dear family, friends, and alumni of Lincoln Glen Little League-
I am reaching out for your support of our dear friend Rickey Munson as he needs our help.
A few months ago, Rickey was diagnosed with oral cancer the size of a small orange in his mouth and nasal cavity, and on April 8th he had “lifesaving” surgery to remove the tumor. The good news is that the pathology showed that they removed all the cancer, the margins were clear, and all ninety-eight lymph nodes that they removed were cancer-free.
Rickey is living in Reno and while he is recovering, he is staying with De Benning, a friend from LGLL, and her husband Dan Rose. He is also being supported by another close LGLL friend, Cindy Harrod Adkins. They are making sure Rickey is being well taken care of, making it to all his doctors and medical appointments and everything else that needs to be done to ensure Rickey has a full recovery. De, Dan, and Cindy are truly angels on this earth and their care and kindness to Rickey demonstrate that our LGLL ties run deep, well beyond the baseball fields.
Rickey was involved in Lincoln Glen Little League for over 41 years. He managed or coached in every division of our league, served on our Board of Directors for 32 years, and held positions as our safety director, tournament director, field maintenance director, vice-president of umpires, vice-president of seniors, and was the longest-serving President of our league for 5 years from 2012 through 2016.
Now the challenge that Rickey faces is that the surgery was so extensive, he will need to have prosthetics made to replace the roof of his mouth and teeth that were removed during the surgery. These prostheses are not covered by insurance and coupled with the medical expenses from the procedures, are more than Rickey and his family can manage alone.
Currently, it is challenging for Rickey to eat and speak, and he has lost over 90 lbs. Rickey is making progress thanks to a recently inserted feeding tube. He is keeping a cheerful outlook, and things are starting to look up.
We are raising funds to help cover these costs and provide Rickey with the best possible care during this challenging time. Every dollar donated will go directly towards his medical expenses, ensuring he can focus on recovery and not worry about how his out-of-pocket share of these overwhelming medical expenses will be paid.
Rickey is a kind-hearted, loyal, and dedicated individual who has always been there for others and has always been a source of strength and positivity for those around him. Now he needs our help to fight this battle. Your generosity can make an enormous difference in his journey toward a full recovery.
Please consider donating today - no amount is too small. If you are unable to donate, we understand and hope that you will consider sharing this fundraiser with your network of family, friends, and alumni from LGLL as that would mean the world to Rickey and his family.
Thank you for your kindness and support. Together we can help Rickey overcome this challenge so he can get back to living his life to the fullest.
