My name is Jon Oswalt. Rick Weems and I played baseball together at Columbus State University (Columbus College) from 1977 to 1980. We have been friends ever since. On behalf of Tee It Up For Teammates, this GoFundMe is being set up for Rick & Lisa Weems.

In December of 2024, Rick had a double bypass, causing his kidneys to fail, and plaque to be scattered throughout his body that calcified. This resulted in his blood not reaching the tips of his fingers and toes. Rick had a toe on each foot and two fingers on his right hand amputated. The last seven months have been filled with home health care nurses, physical therapy, dialysis three times a week, and multiple doctor visits. Rick was back in the hospital for two weeks in April with a stomach bleed. He was then admitted to the hospital on Monday, July 14th. An MRI showed he had an infection in the bone where his toe was removed and in multiple other toes. On July 21, Rick went into cardiac arrest and was put on a ventilator, then moved to a BiPAP machine. He is not out of the woods yet and will need more care once he returns home.
