Hello everyone--

Many of you in our orbit know that my dad, Rick Nuhn, was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma (an extremely rare bile duct cancer) that was inadvertently found on a CT scan after he took a fall in February.

After speaking with his health care team, they told us the only viable option was for him to undergo a Whipple procedure (pancreaticoduodenectomy). This is an incredibly complex surgery that essentially removed many parts of his gastrointestinal anatomy and reconstructed the good bits back together.

While the surgery was successful in that it completely removed the cancer, my dad has suffered immense complications post operatively. Since his surgery on March 31st, he has been in and out of the hospital 13 times. These hospitalizations have included a second resection surgery , and multiple infections. This has been incredibly hard on his body, and his spirits.

My mom, Becky Nuhn (the greatest!) came down from Vancouver and has been caring for my dad since May, and I have been coming every month from New York.

Our goal with this Gofundme is to cover the costs of at home nursing and medical expenses. We are looking for a nurse who can stay with my dad in the coming months while he recovers. Insurance does not cover home nurses, and while my mom and I have gotten a crash course (yes, we now know how to administer IV antibiotics), we need help with his care moving forward.

So many of you have asked how you can help, and to be honest, we haven't had an answer for that until now. I know that my dad has played a meaningful role in many of your lives, and all of us truly appreciate all of the love, calls, cards, and visits.

Nothing would make us happier than to see him fully recovered, so that he can return to the active, fun life that he is used to. Any amount you can donate will go towards his healing.
