My dad, Rick Mulkey, is fighting for his life. He’s been diagnosed with blood cancer, and the only way to save him is through a bone marrow transplant, which is currently scheduled for January.
Right now, he’s on a medication that’s wearing him down completely. He’s pale, weak, short of breath, and just exhausted all the time. His lab work is some of the worst I’ve ever seen, and he’s already had three blood transfusions to keep him going. The doctors told us things might get worse before they get better, but it’s still incredibly hard to see him this way.
My mom, Janet, had to stop working so she could be home caring for him full-time. It’s taken a huge emotional and financial toll — between the medical bills, medications, travel costs (3 hour round trip) and just everyday living, it’s more than they can manage on their own right now.
To make things even harder, Dad is at high risk for esophageal cancer, but because of his dangerously low blood counts and high bleeding risk, doctors can’t even perform the scope he needs. We’re holding onto faith and doing everything we can to help him fight through this.
I’m flying down next week to help them clean, organize, and prepare for what’s ahead. After the transplant, I’ll be driving back down to stay for 2 to 2½ months to take care of him around the clock. He told the doctors he wanted “his girl” there — and I’ll be there. ❤️
I’m asking from the bottom of my heart:
Please pray for my dad, my mom, and our family, and if you’re able, please consider making a donation to help ease some of the financial stress so they can focus on what really matters — his healing and recovery.
No amount is too small. Every dollar helps more than you could ever know. Even if you can’t give, sharing this page would mean the world to us.
From our family to yours — thank you for the love, support, and prayers. It’s what keeps us going every single day.
