DAY 100 UPDATE:
Rick is finally off the critical list!
Completely off the ventilator and breathing on his own.
Just got cleared to eat soft foods and thickened liquids.
One more skin graft to go on his tail bone.
AND today he made it all the way to the end of the hall with the walker.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support us on this journey. It looks like he'll be going to a physical rehab facility next so we'll keep you all posted.
Love, peace and chicken grease,
Rick & Jill ♥️♥️♥️
UPDATE:
They have completed the skin grafts on his back and torso, down to his beltline. Still waiting for the skin on his lower back to be ready to accept successful grafting. Rick has been breathing on his own for the most part without ventilator support for the last several days. They put a speech valve in his tracheostomy so he's been able to speak as of yesterday afternoon. We still have a way to go, but this is all GREAT NEWS!
Thank you all for the continued support, love, prayers, and friendship ❤️❤️
about 3 weeks in, Rick had a setback with excessive fluid in his lungs. He's been on a variety of ventilators, breathing masks, and is finally able to breathe on his own for a few hours a day. Doctors have decided to hold off on further surgeries to let him rest for about 3 weeks. He'll be in the hospital longer than we originally anticipated.
most of the small burns are already grafted, he just has his back and torso to go. His hands are healing very well.
Thank you everyone for the continued support and prayers. We love you all ❤️

Hi Friends,
Rick Garza was badly injured January 16, on his 62nd birthday. He sustained 3rd degree burns on his hands and his entire back, as well as less severe burns on his face, head, and knee. If things go well, Rick will be in the Lions Burn Unit at UMC in Las Vegas for the next 4-6 weeks, after which he'll have rehab and occupational therapy for up to a year. He also requires extensive skin grafts as part of his healing journey. He is currently critical but stable, but not out of the woods yet.
This has been devastating for his family. He has a rough road ahead and expenses are piling up quickly. I am not a begging person, but please consider donating toward his current expenses and future care. I know he has so many beloved family and friends in the music community whom he dearly loves. Your continued prayers and support mean everything. With your help, Rick can have the journey to recovery that he deserves.
Thank you, God bless you, and I love you all.
