As many of you know, Rick, along with Nicole, Austin, Clara, Fran, and Cindy, are currently traveling through Europe. On Sunday the 10th, while having dinner in Port Bessin, France, Rick suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness. Those with him immediately checked for a pulse but couldn’t find one, so Nicole and Clara began CPR right away until medics arrived.
When emergency responders got there, they used a defibrillator to restart his heart and then intubated him to help him breathe. He was transported to a hospital about 30 miles away, where they performed a CT scan. The doctors determined he had suffered a heart attack, likely caused by atrial fibrillation.
Rick was put into a medically induced coma to let his body rest and successfully came out of it on Tuesday afternoon. He was greeted by his entire family as Sue, Jessica, and Renee flew to France as soon as they could.
We are not sure when Rick will be able to come home so alternative travel plans are having to be made. Being out of the country, they are encountering many unplanned expenses and will also have to pay medical expenses up front and hopefully get reimbursed for some of it by insurance after they come back home. If you would like to support them financially, it would be greatly appreciated. We also appreciate all the prayers that have been sent our way and know we have a village supporting us when we get home.
