Support Rich's Journey to Recovery

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Community,

I am reaching out to ask for your support for two incredibly kind and devoted individuals, Rich and Dave. Many of you know Rich and Dave for their big hearts and unwavering commitment to their community, and now they need our help.

In August 2023, Rich suffered a stroke while battling Covid, which unfortunately went undetected until February 2024 when he began experiencing motor and cognitive issues. By June 2024, Rich was faced with episodes of myoclonus dystonia syndrome, which left doctors puzzled. He was then moved to Baylor Scott White in Temple, TX, for close observation. After a long series of tests, they discovered that Rich was suffering from encephalitis, a severe inflammation of the brain. He underwent intensive treatment with high doses of steroids and PLEX exchange. This left him bedridden for about 40 days before he could be transferred to St David's Round Rock for inpatient rehabilitation to regain his mobility.

Recently, Rich started showing signs of encephalitis again and was readmitted to the hospital, this time with atrial fibrillation (Afib). His heartbeat was alarmingly high at 130 beats per minute, and doctors determined that he needed a pacemaker. They successfully implanted the pacemaker along with ablation and a balloon procedure. Rich also received IVIG, an intravenous steroid to help suppress the encephalitis protein.

While admitted, he also lost 45 lbs in fluid weight.

Currently, Rich is in a skilled nursing facility, but he isn't strong enough for inpatient rehabilitation. The only option now is to send him home, with his discharge date scheduled for Friday, March 7th. Rich and Dave could really use your financial help during this challenging time. Metabolic encephalopathy is the primary concern at the moment, and we need to strengthen Rich so he can attend his specialist appointments and regain his health.

Some of you might be aware of their situation, while others might not, but Dave has been doing everything he can to provide the best care for Rich. However, bringing Rich home will incur significant expenses, as they will need specialists to come to their home to assist Rich in his recovery since he is currently immobile. There will be substantial costs for specific equipment to help Rich get out of bed and onto a chair until he can do it on his own.

Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated by Rich and Dave. Your generosity will make a meaningful difference in their lives and help them navigate this difficult journey.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Donations will go toward a variety of essential items and services to support Rich's recovery and help ease the burden on Dave. Here are some specific areas where your contributions will make a significant impact:

1. Specialized Medical Equipment:
- Hydraulic Hoyer Lift
2. Home Care Services:
- Skilled nursing, physical, and occupational therapy
3. Medical Expenses:
- Out-of-pocket costs for specialist visits

4. Transportation:

Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in Rich's journey to recovery and help provide the best possible care for him. Your generosity and kindness are truly appreciated during this challenging time.
