My name is Eric, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart. My boyfriend, Richard, is facing deportation to Venezuela due to the harsh immigration policies under the Trump-era parole policies. His life is in danger if he’s forced to return, and I’m desperately trying to keep him safe.

Richard came to the U.S. seeking safety and a better future. Venezuela is in crisis—hyperinflation, violence, and political persecution make it unsafe for so many, including him. Additionally, living as a gay man in Venezuela also is not safe- he faces physical violence, slander, trouble finding employment, and other harsh discriminations around him being a part of the LGBT community, including direct threats to his physical health with lack of medications and medical assistance. He’s built a life here, LEGALLY working hard, paying taxes, and dreaming of a future where he can contribute to this country without fear of persecution and open access to medical care.

Why We Need Your Help:

Richard is trying to seek asylum in The States and in order to do that there are various legal fees, as well as numerous living expenses (rent, utilities, phone, transit, etc) - once asylum is requested you have to wait for six months for the government to grant you a work permit. In that time he will be taking English classes, and various courses to be prepared to jump back into the workforce once he receives his work permit.
