Support Richard Sillers: Victim of Radical Mob Injustice

Donation protected
On July 16, Richard Sillers, a proud Canadian and lifelong supporter of law enforcement, set out with his wife and 7-year-old daughter, not realizing his life was about to be upended. Recently, Richard’s wife was dismissed from her government job for choosing to protect her medical privacy. Inspired to take a stand, Richard adorned their truck with Canadian flags as a symbol of their belief in personal freedoms.

That day, as they drove past a “Drag Queen Story Time” event in Wortley Village, Richard quietly honked his horn to express his opposition to sexualized events aimed at children. The reaction was immediate and violent. Enraged attendees claimed his Canadian flags were “triggering” and began attacking the truck. One individual even threw a framed object at the vehicle.

Stepping out to confront the attacker, Richard was met with a hostile crowd. Video footage shows the mob swarming his truck and even assaulting his wife as she tried to protect their daughter. Richard, outnumbered, held a Canadian flag pole in an attempt to deter the attackers and shield his family.

When police arrived, instead of addressing the attackers, they arrested only Richard, hurling slurs and accusations at him, even calling him a “Nazi” and “homophobe.” Despite clear video evidence showing he was the victim, Richard was charged with Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public—the very Canadian flag he’d used defensively. Although he was acquitted of Causing a Disturbance, he was convicted on the second charge, with the judge ruling that holding the flag pole in self-defense qualified as a weapon.

Now, the Crown wants to elevate these charges as a “hate crime.” Appeals like this are costly, and many go unpursued due to the financial burden.

Richard Sillers urgently needs your support. Please stand with him in the fight against this injustice. Donate to his legal defense fund, and help bring his story to light.
