Richard Silberg, 84, is a beloved poet, reviewer, and associate editor at Poetry Flash. On October 12, 2025, Richard suffered a terrible fall and was found on his apartment floor after more than 24 hours. He was hospitalized for his injuries and, due to his Parkinson’s, required months of treatment and rehabilitation. When his insurance ran out on February 1, 2026, he was released home, where he now needs 24/7 care. Richard’s savings are nearly gone, and his only income is social security. The cost of caregivers, groceries, rent, and utilities is overwhelming. Poetry Flash, the nonprofit he’s been part of since 1979, has been covering his urgent needs, but as a small organization, we can’t continue to do so. We are doing our best to connect him with local social services and hospice support, but right now, we need help from the community. Richard is well-known for his poems, essays, book reviews, workshops, and for mentoring emerging poets. He has touched countless lives through his work and his legendary introductions at Poetry Flash readings. Any donation to this fundraiser will go directly to Richard’s care and help him remain safe and comfortable at home. Your support will make a real difference in his life and help us get him closer to a more sustainable situation. Thank you for helping someone who has given so much to the poetry and arts community.
