We are reaching out on behalf of the Leon family during an incredibly difficult season to ask for support for their husband, father, and grandfather — Richard, who was recently admitted into hospice care with untreatable cancer.
Richard has called Maui home for the past 39 years, and the family has lived in West Maui for nearly that entire time.
Richard spent his career in Maui working in sales, primarily selling activities and excursions. He had a natural gift for connecting with people — learning their stories, sharing the magic of Maui with visitors, and forming relationships that often lasted long after a sale.
The Leon family has also been part of Kumulani Chapel for decades, and the relationships formed there have carried them through their happiest seasons and now through one of their hardest.
This chapter has been especially heavy, as the family is still grieving the passing of Valerie’s mother in June, and now must navigate end-of-life care for Richard. As hospice begins, it has become clear that the financial burden is significant. The cost of end-of-life care on Maui is incredibly high, and the added responsibility falling on Valerie has made it impossible for her to shoulder alone.
Friends and loved ones encouraged the creation of this GoFundMe to help with the expenses related to Richard’s care and eventual funeral arrangements. Any amount — no matter how small — will directly support these needs, allowing the family to honor Richard with dignity and to focus on spending meaningful time together in these final weeks.
If you are unable to give financially, the family deeply appreciates your prayers, encouragement, and presence. Your support means more than words can express.
On behalf of the entire Leon family — thank you for loving Richard and for walking with them through this season.
With gratitude,
Friends of the Leon Family
