Rich Unger and I have been friends for over 40 years. Many locals will remember his store on South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota—Hot Flash—where you could 'Buy one, get FOUR!' during his legendary sales on bikinis, jeans, and fashion accessories. Beyond his business, Rich was always there to help raise funds for local charities, using his expertise in the restaurant and bar industry to benefit thousands of Sarasota residents over the last four decades. His generosity and spirit have left a lasting mark on our community.

Sadly, over the past year, Rich's health has begun to fail him.

He is suffering severe Parkinson's disease as well as dementia. The costs of his care are overwhelming, and Medicare and Medicaid simply aren't enough. His wife Diane is also facing her own health struggles, recently battling pneumonia, and is at the end of her rope worrying about their future. I visited Rich recently and was moved to do whatever I could to help them through this incredibly difficult time.

I know Richie has a great circle of friends. Especially ay Planet Fitness, South Trail and Beneva.

Every dime raised will go directly toward Rich and Diane's medical bills, daily care, and ultimely, facility costs. They have lived just off Stickney Point Road near Siesta Key for four decades and have touched the lives of thousands of local friends and neighbors. The need is real, and I know that if our community is made aware of their situation, we can come together to support them.
