5/28/25 UPDATE: Rhonda faced a big setback a couple of weeks ago when her doctors, upon realizing she is unable to see anything on the eye chart with her right eye and has no peripheral vision, agreed there will likely be no improvement for that eye. Hard news after surgery and cataract surgery.

But Rhonda's faith has not wavered, and there is renewed hope! Her eye doctor believes there can be enough correction (through glasses) to the left eye that she will be able to see to work and drive. That appointment is on June 10, and Rhonda will prayerfully return to work as soon as the glasses are ready.

In the meantime, she needs an additional $1,500 for the new glasses, utilities, food, and health insurance. She had just enough to pay her June rent, and she is praising God for His continued provision and love.

If you haven't had a chance to donate yet, or have a little more to give and help our dear sister, please do. Thank you!

Twenty-five years ago, Rhonda Masters experienced a detached retina. Last December, the silicone band installed to treat that condition all those years ago was cutting into her eye and had to be surgically removed. The surgery resulted in a choroidal detachment, causing temporary blindness in that eye. In addition to a great deal of pain, the detachment has left Rhonda unable to work since December. True to her character, Rhonda is praising God that the total blindness has now healed. However, the trauma caused by the surgery accelerated the development of cataracts, leaving her with significant vision loss. She is still unable to work.

Rhonda was cleared for cataract surgery by her doctors last week, but the soonest appointment available for the surgery is at the end of May. That means two or three more months before she can work again. Although her employer is holding her job for her, she is not being paid – and they have required her to cover their share of her insurance premiums, in addition to her own, until she is back at work full time.

Among her family, church family, friends, and community, Rhonda is a generous giver. She contributes her time, money, and baking talents to various committees and ministries at church, from FIT to OP/THX to international missions—and a whole lot in between. She is the first one to offer prayer and support when someone is sick or feeling discouraged, and she appears with gifts and words of love at showers, birthday parties, holiday get-togethers, and community group meetings. Her present situation provides a wonderful opportunity for those of us who have basked in her love to show her some love in return.

Between the insurance and her bills, which she has lowered or eliminated as much as possible, those monthly expenses are $2,400, meaning she will need $7,200 to cover the next three months. She is cashing out a simple IRA to bring the amount needed down to $5,000. Wouldn’t it be wonderful for us to bless Rhonda with $5,000 so she can focus her energy on recovering her vision and preparing to return to work?
