We all have that one teacher who we will never forget, one that makes a lasting impression. My son was lucky enough to be placed in Rhonda Fleming's first-grade class at Kingsfield Elementary in the fall of 2020. To say she made an impact on his life is an understatement. I've never met another teacher like her, and if your child has ever been in her class, you know exactly what I mean. This woman LOVES her kids with her whole heart. She gives everything to these kids. She truly wants to be there every day. She has a love for education unlike anything I've ever seen. There really are not enough words to say about this woman.
She gives so much of herself to others and has been doing so in the classroom for almost two decades. Rhonda is not one to ever ask anyone for help as she is usually the one reaching out to help others. But, as most of you may know, she was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer in January 2024 and started chemotherapy on February 14th.
If you have followed along with her during this battle, you know that she has been so strong and positive. Her strength and faith have been an example to all of us.
Last school year, Rhonda was blessed by so many wonderful colleagues donating leave to help while she was out for treatments. But she has reached the point where all the donated leave, sick, and PTO days have been exhausted. She is going on week 5 of unpaid leave from school due to treatments. She just returned from a month at MD Anderson in Houston for radiation. The chemotherapy and radiation are physically and emotionally exhausting.
We can help by donating to try and help relieve some of the financial concerns so that she can focus all her energy on treatments and healing. She would NEVER ask anyone to help her, but I know that there are so many people that will be willing to help and that want to help. I did ask her before creating this GoFundMe. She said she would never ask anyone, but I explained to her we all want to help her. So please, if you can, donate and share her story. Let's try to raise some money to help relieve some worry/concerns about missing work so she can focus on healing. If you aren't able to donate at this time, please keep Rhonda and her family in your prayers. I know she appreciates the prayers more than anything!!
ALL MONEY RAISED IS GOING DIRECTLY TO RHONDA!
See below for the post Rhonda made earlier this year following her diagnosis.
Many of you know I hadn't been feeling well for months and had seen numerous doctors. On January 7th, my condition worsened, and I was led to the ER. Many twists, turns, and procedures later, I was discharged from the hospital on January 18th with a probable pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Since then, there have been more procedures which have confirmed that I am currently fighting stage 3 pancreatic cancer in the head of my pancreas and main biliary duct. This has been a very difficult thing for myself and my family to accept and work through.
Wednesday, February 14th, will mark the beginning of the active fight for my life as I officially start my first day of chemo, to keep me here with my girls and other family. This isn't going to be an easy fight, I know. I don't know how I will feel, react, change, or grow through this process. BUT what I do know is that I know a GOD more powerful even than pancreatic cancer! I plan to trust Him, His plan for me, and hold on tight to my faith.
Thank you so much to everyone who has poured out to us in love through calls, texts, meals, cards, gifts, donated leave, thoughts, and prayers. I'm reaching out only to ask, please pray! Pray for my strength, pray for my health, pray for my team of doctors, surgeons, and nurses. Pray for my girls, pray for my parents, and for all my wonderful friends and family. Prayer is the only thing I have right now that I know has a 100% success rate!
