In 2018, Rhett was diagnosed with stage three multiple myeloma, a life-changing moment for our family. After a successful stem cell transplant in 2019, he has been able to maintain his health and to keep the cancer from growing with the help of the medication Revlimid. Unfortunately, Rhett cannot take the generic version due to severe reactions, and the brand-name medication is extremely expensive. For the past few years, we have relied on multiple grants to help cover the cost, but many of those grants have ended, leaving us with much higher out-of-pocket expenses.
On March 24, 2026, Rhett suffered a significant fall at home, breaking his pelvis in two places. Because of the lesions from his multiple myeloma, his bones were weaker, making the injury even more severe. He is now undergoing physical therapy twice a week and working hard to recover, but he cannot get around without a walker and is still in a lot of pain. The recovery process will be long and challenging for both of us. I also struggle with autoimmune issues like lupus and fibromyalgia, which makes caregiving even more difficult. The extra responsibilities are overwhelming at times, and we are doing our best to manage.
We are so grateful for the love and support we have already received from friends and family. This fund is set up to help with ongoing needs, especially Rhett’s medication, medical supplies, groceries, and meal deliveries. We want to be clear that we do not expect anyone to feel obligated to give—asking for help is not easy for us. Both Rhett and I work, but the financial burden has become more than we can handle alone. If you feel led to support us, we would be deeply grateful. Your kindness will help us navigate this difficult season and focus on Rhett’s recovery.
