Support Reynolds Reybots for World Championships

Donation protected
For a few years now there has been a growing interest at Reynolds Secondary School in the areas of robotics and technology. We have recently introduced a Robotics 11 and Programming and Games Design course alongside our Information and Technology courses. A few highly motivated and keen students approached our staff with the idea to start a robotics club and try to enter a competition. This club is driven by the interest and passion of our students. They have been the ones to research programs, recruit peers, organize meetings, and request staff support. We are excited to come together and put our unique talents to the test.

However, a large barrier for many of our students is the ever mounting costs of the extracurricular activities they are passionate about. In particular, technology based activities tend to have a higher cost associated with participation,  and now we face the additional costs of competing at the World Championships in Houston, Texas this April 17-20.

We have a group of 12 dedicated students actively involved in the club, alongside 3 staff mentors, some enthusiastic parents, and community members.

FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international robotics program for high school students to learn about the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through hands-on learning in the field of robotics. Teams of 10-20+ students design, build, and program a robot to compete in a sports-like event. Students gain valuable teamwork experience and real-life application of science and technology.

After competing at the Canadian Pacific Regionals, our team was awarded the Rookie All-Star Award, which qualified us for the World Championship in Houston, Texas. We will be competing against over 600 other robotics teams from 60 different countries. The event is attended by over 40,000 people.

We are asking for support and sponsorship opportunities to help support our students in continuing their pursuit of learning, leadership, and gracious professionalism at the World Championships.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for our team to offset the costs associated with registration fees, shipping container construction, and travel for our 12 members and two coach/mentors.

I am Gregory Downing, a teacher at Reynolds Secondary school and Coach/Mentor for the team. All funds raised in this campaign will be withdrawn by me into a personal account and then immediately transferred into the Robotics Club account at Reynolds Secondary. Any financial inquiries regarding this can be directed to me at [email redacted].ca .
