Dear Community,
Rey is 13 years old and is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. (Rey’s pronouns are they/them/theirs.) Rey has needed appropriate mental health supports for a long time but has had difficulty accessing them. There is a lack of LGBTQ+ informed services for youth in their county and limited funds to get help elsewhere. Rey’s need is now urgent, and their family needs our financial assistance so Rey can attend a much-needed Wilderness Therapy program out-of-state.
“2/3 of trans youth report recent self-harm (within the previous year)." (Centre for Suicide Prevention, Canada)
“Each episode of LGBT victimization, such as physical or verbal harassment or abuse, increases the likelihood of self-harming behavior by 2.5 times on average.” (The Trevor Project)
“In a national study, 40% of transgender adults reported having made a suicide attempt. 92% of these individuals reported having attempted suicide before the age of 25.” (The Trevor Project)
Rey’s mom has located a Wilderness Therapy program that has an “all-gender group” and is one of the very few trans-inclusive Wilderness Therapy programs in the U.S. This evidence-based program will help support Rey’s physical and emotional safety.
Every contribution goes toward Rey’s healing, by providing 12 weeks of Wilderness Therapy and associated medical and travel expenses necessary for Rey to be part of this program.
Please donate to support Rey and their loved ones as they navigate the road to healing. No amount is too small.
These are difficult times for all of us, and Rey’s family was reluctant to ask for help but cannot do this alone. They need community support from people who love and accept LGBTQIA+ youth and want to see them grow into emotionally strong and healthy adults.
Rey needs us. Please donate if you are able.
