Hello, I'm Ted Canova, and I'm here to help a longtime friend in his time of medical and financial need. Rex Hodge is an Emmy-winning TV reporter who has told other people's stories all his life, ever since I met him when we were both journalism students at Emerson College.
Rex has always been there for others, especially the thousands upon thousands of viewers who relied on him. Whether it was behind the anchor desk, holding politicians accountable, providing critical information during natural disasters, or just telling stories in a community, Rex could be counted on.
When Rex retired last year from WLOS-TV in Asheville, North Carolina, after 15 years, colleagues lined up to share their love and respect.

But now Rex is facing a story he never thought he'd be sharing: his own. After fighting back throat cancer, Rex recently learned the cancer has spread to his lymphatic system and into his lungs. "It's stage 4, not the good kind," he said when he opened his heart to share the news. The odds are uncertain, but Rex is determined to fight. So with his wife Deb by his side, Rex immediately started treatment to fight the cancer, which involves six cycles of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, that will last for the next four-and-a-half-months.
I wish I could say insurance covers this journey, but we all know how it falls well short. One thing I know about Rex is that he's not a quitter. But I also know that he must focus on his care, on having a positive attitude, and on pushing through and playing tennis between treatments. What he shouldn't face is fear of finances.
With this campaign, we are hoping to raise $30,000 to help ease this burden- affording Rex the chance to put all of his strength and energy into getting better.
