Hi all!
It feels like it wasn't that long ago I was here on GoFundMe looking for help for my last surgery but... here we are again!
If you don't already know, I had gender affirming bottom surgery in October of 2023. If you helped with my GoFundMe that last time, I can't thank you enough! It was a truly life-changing thing and all for the better - I've been happier, more whole, and felt freer than I have in years now that so much of my body lines up with what I expect to see every time I look in the mirror. The joy and warmth that I feel in my own skin is hard to put into words - and even harder to do justice to.
But it seems like this isn't the end for me yet.
If you followed along in my initial recovery through late 2023 and the first half of 2024, you know that I had a pretty rough time. Unfortunately, I had quite a few complications from surgery that made my journey back to full health really tough. And even more unfortunate: at least one of those complications messed up my healing process, making the surgery only a partial success. The GOOD news here: this is fixable.
In fact, I have a revision surgery already scheduled for just a month from now at the start of March, 2025. Same surgeon and same hospital down in DC. The surgery itself and the healing should all be a much faster process. It's an outpatient procedure this time and the healing should take just about 2 weeks.
So why am I making this GoFundMe? What is it for?
I'm so glad you asked, curious person I made up for this story!
I just recently changed jobs. As in "last week was my first week" recently. The kinda nice thing about this is that my insurance paperwork is gonna be a lot easier (going from an HMO last time to a PPO this time!) The unfortunate thing is that I'm in a 3 month trial period. During that time, I will be eligible for some paid leave because of the Massachusetts Paid Family Medical Leave Act. But I will not be able to use any PTO - including for the first week I'll be out and the 2nd week, where I earn only a fraction of my standard pay. (Normally, you can use your PTO to cover the gap in pay.)
SO - by my calculations, I'll be a fair bit short for the month and will need a bit of help to make up for the lost income - about $1,000. I've also added in what my deductible costs will be for the surgery and all related medical care: another $1,000. And finally, to cover some additional medical materials expenses (I have most from last time, but will need to get some more): $500.
For (maybe) somewhat obvious reasons, I'm trying to get this surgery done as soon as possible without any delays, so pushing my surgery date is just not an option for me. Any help you can give will be immensely appreciated. There's a lot going on in the world right now I know, but even a little bit helps. Thank you! <3
