Support retired teacher rebuild after the Palisades fire
Donation protected

My mom, her husband, and their tiny dog were evacuated from the Palisades fire. They had a harrowing and traumatizing experience evacuating and nearly had to abandon their car on Sunset blvd and run for their lives like hundreds of other angelenos had to do Tuesday. While her condo building is one of the few structures that remain on her street we have no clue how damaged her unit is as she was near the top/back and that is the area that sustained the most damage. We're still unable to go see the damage for ourselves as the fire rages on and destroys more homes. My mother is a retired teacher, she loved children and choose the palisades in order to be close to her grandkids and daughter, she doesn't have a financial safety net and to make matters worse her husband was just laid off due to his company being bought out. My sisters home was also destroyed in the fire which is another layer of extreme loss and grief we're dealing with as bth my mom and I have lived with my sister. We are hoping that our community will help us in this devastating time. We will use these funds for more long term housing (for my mom/husband), clothes, necessary items, and puppy care! We appreciate any help you can give- Thank you <3
At this time a majority of the funds are still being saved for ongoing temporary housing costs those costs are projected to be 75% of the funds raised. As my mom will have to continue to have to pay her mortgage in full for many years before she has a livable home and her insurance is not even offering to cover the full cost of her mortgage let alone her temporary housing needs. Some of the funds have been used to buy necessities like prescription replacement copays, toiletries, food, dog care needs like puppy pads, new harness, new leash, new dog stroller, a new laptop to fill out the endless amounts of insurance and FEMA paperwork. At this point gofundme has taken almost 500 in fees from what we've raised and my mom has used only about 20% of the remaining amount for necessities and housing but will continue to use it for temporary housing as she continues to look for an apartment or condo she can afford.
Again thank you to everyone who has shared or donated. We have a long road ahead so please feel free to share again <3
