Four years ago, I lost my best friend, Jonathan. He left behind a piece of his heart—his beloved cat, Rerun. Rerun is not just a pet; he’s my living connection to Jonathan, my friend of 30 years, who I miss every day. Through Rerun, I feel Jonathan's spirit, his love, and the countless memories we shared.

Rerun has faced challenges from the start. He was born with multiple health issues: eye deformities, a coronavirus, an autoimmune disease, and chronic asthma. These conditions are manageable with constant care and medication, but they require a level of attention—and cost—that’s hard to bear alone. When Jonathan’s family entrusted me with Rerun, they promised support for his medical needs, but that assistance hasn’t materialized. I’ve dedicated myself to giving Rerun the best life possible, often prioritizing his needs over my own, because he deserves a healthy, happy life in honor of Jonathan’s memory.

Rerun’s chronic asthma is a constant battle. Every six weeks, he needs prescription inhalers that cost $700, just so he can breathe comfortably. His health demands frequent vet visits, and there are times when he must go to the hospital. His care is intense—medications every 12 hours, and during asthma attacks, every 30-60 minutes for stretches that can last from 6 to 36 hours. Despite this, Rerun’s preexisting conditions make him ineligible for pet insurance, leaving me with the full financial responsibility.

Since I took Rerun in during the COVID lockdown in July 2020, I’ve accumulated over $10,000 in medical debt for his care alone. This doesn’t include the essentials like food or day-to-day expenses. I’ve carried this burden willingly, out of love for Rerun and to honor Jonathan’s memory. But now, I need help to continue providing him with the life he deserves.
