Devoted husband, father, friend, and avid cyclist was one of the five people that did not survive the Nipton Loop horrific tragedy that occurred on Thursday, Dec 10th in a devastating crash. Forever now a part of TEAM G, Aksoy knew almost everyone in the Las Vegas cycling community. His willingness to help his community and care for others were evident in his inclusive nature and encouragement of other riders at all levels and ability. A true lover of the sport, Aksoy found ways to share his passion with everyone he met. When his best friend began to lose his sight, Aksoy eagerly added tandem biking to his repertoire so that his friend could continue to enjoy the sport they loved so much. As cyclists know, the rider in the front is doing all of the work and Aksoy never hesitated to circle back and “pull” struggling riders along by sharing their workload. He did it without thought, without thanks, and with a smile on his face. Aksoy found time to ride daily and always had friends with him but his best friend, and favorite riding companion was his wife, Angela, and the two were pillars in the sport and quietly took joy in helping with the charitable efforts of Breakaway Cycling at every opportunity. So many have been impacted by their infectious laughter and generosity.

Aksoy leaves behind a beautiful family. Both adventurous souls, Aksoy met his wife, Angela, while the two were working on cruise lines over 20 years ago. Together, they built the Ahmets, that Aksoy kept in laughter day after day. Despite so many accomplishments, his children made him prouder than anything. First, his now 17-year-old daughter, Jasmine, started the new chapter in Aksoy and Angela’s lives as parents. Then, after some convincing, he and Angela decided to see how much fun it would be to have a son as well. Always the overachiever, Aksoy and Angela welcomed twin boys, Emre and Eren, who are now 14. He leaves an unfillable void but his dedication to his family created a legacy and memories that will always carry on with each of them.
