Renee was a 46-year-old woman who faced many challenges in her life, but she never let them stop her from advocating for herself and her sons. Born with Cerebral Palsy and later diagnosed with Myoclonic Dystonia as a teenager, Renee was an active athlete in her youth, competing in swimming, wheelchair basketball, and track. She was a devoted mother to three biological sons and a stepson, two of whom have disabilities. Despite her own health struggles, Renee always put her boys first and fought for their independence and well-being.
Renee's marriage ended, but she remained determined to stay close to her sons and support them. She lived in a small studio apartment in downtown Sacramento for the last five years. Three years ago, Renee suffered a hip infection that left her unable to transfer herself, making her dependent on 24-hour care. Unfortunately, the care she received was often inadequate, and her health continued to decline. She battled multiple infections, bed sores, and malnutrition, and in November 2025, she was diagnosed with a large abdominal mass. Despite her strength and determination, Renee passed away on February 20, 2026, after a long and difficult journey.
Renee had no life insurance, savings, or assets. As her mother, I have been trying to settle her bills and take care of her final arrangements while managing my own disability after breaking my back three years ago. I used my credit cards to cover car rentals, plane fare, and a U-Haul to move her possessions from California to Arizona. I am also planning a celebration of life for Renee and hope to create a photo DVD for her sons, so they have something to remember her by. I am asking for help to settle Renee's bills and expenses, and to honor her memory for her sons. Thank you in advance for your kindness and support.
