Support Rene Gouverneur's Recovery Journey

Hi, my name is Paul Matney. As many of you may know, my Mom, Rene Gouverneur (previously Rene Lemons-Matney) has had breast cancer since last August. What started out as a relatively light treatment plan has turned into surgery, chemo, radiation and hormone therapy. Now she is cancer free and through the bulk of her treatment, but has unfortunately been unable to work for the better part of the last year. The rest of the family and I have been helping with everything as we can, but are now at a point where we need to ask for help.

For those of you who don't know my mom, she is the most kind, caring and giving person I know. She has spent her whole career giving to the community and continues to find ways to give back through volunteering and caring for those around her. Over 20 years ago, she started the Cape Fear Center for Inquiry (CFCI) with two colleagues with the vision to create a better learning environment for children centered around inquiry based learning. She taught K-1 at this school for many years and saw thousands of kids graduate through those halls.

In short, my mom has brought love and joy to so many over the years, please help us return the favor by helping to ease her of this financial burden.
