Support Remmingtonne's Urgent Surgery and Recovery

I’ve been putting off this GoFundMe primarily due to be terrified and mortified of asking for help, but I’m in a position where it’s dire. In the next week, I will be looking at an emergency and required surgery for my beloved best friend Remmingtonne, my four year old boxer-coonhound-mastiff mix. I adopted my wild buddy about 4 years ago! Around April, a simple backyard run with my other dog, Devereaux, turned into a badly torn CCL (ACL human equivalent). Despite working and volunteering around animals my whole life, I didn’t realize the nightmare road that would lie ahead primarily in terms of cost and time required off of work for this injury. The last two and a half months, far longer than it should have run, have been spent at various vets and surgical specialists receiving quotes, opinions, medications, and supplements. Because Remmingtonne is over 100 lbs, the emergency nature of the surgery and time that’s passed puts the hips, pelvis, and other (healthy) leg at extremely high risk because of this displacement of the joints and weight bearing.

The surgery, which is quoted between $6,500- 12k (“luckily” we’re looking at $7500-8k range when all is said and done and that is the goal we're shooting for), is intense and involves metal plating along the bones & joints. The recovery is long, requires me to take time off work, and involves 8-12 weeks of physical rehabilitation. Being an independent business owner, these costs are utterly swamping and overwhelming any resources I have.

Much like our healthcare system, insurance is useless and an expense I cannot afford, especially with this being considered a “preexisting condition.” Every veterinary hospital requires payment in FULL before performing surgery and an unwillingness to cooperate with any sort of payment plan, unfortunately. Going into this, frankly, I was unaware at the tedious and dead-end nature of the whole journey.

This surgery is putting me in a situation where my basic needs and living costs are at high risk with not many other avenues to explore for help.

I also want to extend gratitude to all of the various clients and friends that have asked and been in touch about Remmingtonne thus far. A lot of folks are aware how much of a toll this has taken on myself and home life. Your concern is greatly appreciated.
