I’m hoping to raise funds to help with medical expenses for my boy, Remi. Funds will be used for treatments he has received, current and future treatments as well as wheels so that he can live his absolute best life going forward.

Remi is the absolute sweetest boy. He started out life on the Indian reservation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. I had a friend/coworker that worked with a local rescue and I initially offered to help foster him and his brother. I immediately fell in love with his handsome face and sweet personality and couldn’t stand the thought of not having him with me. After some serious convincing my ex husband agreed to adopt him and then he too fell in love with him. This was in 2022. Fast forward to today and he has been with me through all my joys and licked away my tears during heartaches. Now it’s my turn to do everything I can for him.

In October, just 1 week before his 4th birthday he went outside a totally happy, healthy boy. When he came back inside I noticed he had a limp on his back right foot. As the day progressed he became more wobbly. The next morning he couldn’t walk with his back legs at all. I immediately took him to my vet. They referred me to the emergency vet in Ft Wayne and they intern referred me to Indianapolis because they had MRI capabilities. Imaging showed that he had not just ruptured a disk in his back but it had exploded and herniated through 4 levels along his vertebrae. I love my boy and he deserves everything I can possibly give so I maxed out credit cards and depleted my resources so that he could have emergency surgery that night. We are now 6 weeks post op. He is showing signs of improvement but still unable to walk. He has also had a major set back and caused severe damage to his left foot. His care now includes daily dressing changes in an attempt to save his foot and laser therapy to help with healing on his foot and spine.

Amazingly through it all he is still my happy loving boy. While I cry for him and what he has lost, he still licks away my tears. What I miss most is his tail. Before his injury, he never stopped wagging it. Now it’s the one thing I can’t wait to see again.

I truly appreciate any and all help. I have never done anything like this before and to be honest it’s a hard thing to do but this is what my boy needs and deserves.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Arlene
