Support Religious Freedom: Empower Moorish American Moslem Inmates Through The Moorish Science Temple of America-1928 (MSTA-1928)

The Moorish Science Temple of America-1928 (MSTA-1928), under the leadership of Shaykh Ra Saadi El, has dedicated itself to uplifting humanity through knowledge, education, and empowerment. Today, we humbly seek your support to address a critical issue of religious discrimination faced by incarcerated individuals who identify as Moorish American Moslems and are affiliated with MSTA-1928.

For over three decades, these individuals have been denied their fundamental rights to religious freedom as guaranteed by the First Amendment and federal laws like the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA). This has resulted in restricted religious practices, lack of access to spiritual guidance, and limited availability of religious materials—creating barriers to their spiritual growth and rehabilitation.

Who We Are

MSTA-1928 is an Islamic religious organization committed to law-abiding, peaceful practices and high moral and ethical standards. We reject any association with the "Moorish Sovereignty Movement" or anti-government ideologies. Our members are devoted to non-violence and contribute positively to society. Through structured programs, correspondence courses, and religious services, we have provided meaningful spiritual support to inmates nationwide.

Why We Need Your Help

Our efforts to support inmates have been met with challenges, including doctrinal misinterpretations, inconsistent worship opportunities, and a lack of recognition for our structured faith practices. To address these issues, we are advocating for:

Right to Assemble for Religious Services: Allowing inmates to gather for worship under the guidance of authorized MSTA-1928 ministers or trained inmate leaders.

Access to Religious Materials: Ensuring inmates can receive MSTA-1928 publications, DVDs, and other resources to practice their faith.

Enrollment in Correspondence Courses: Enabling participation in the Moorish Islamic Theocratic Institute (MITI) program, which empowers inmates with religious knowledge and leadership skills.
