Help Lisa Get Her 95-Year-Old Marine Veteran Dad to His VA Appointments Safely

Hi, I’m Lisa Roloff, full-time caregiver to my dad, Robert G. Roloff Jr., a 95-year-old (soon to be 96) Korean War Era Marine Veteran who served his country honorably.

My dad now lives with dementia, COPD/asthma, knees replaced with lab-grown coral about 30 years ago, a heart valve issue that can’t be surgically repaired due to his age and COPD, glaucoma, and long-term depression. All of these conditions are manageable with medication, proper nutrition, and constant monitoring — but we must have reliable transportation for his VA medical appointments.

Our 2006 Kia Sedona van’s frame has rusted so badly that it has broken. It is currently at SnowDance Towing and Mechanics in Marseilles, Illinois, where they can confirm the extent of the damage. The mechanic warned that any repair would be temporary at best — basically a ticking time bomb. I am terrified to drive my dad on the 45-minute one-way trip to the nearest VA clinic in that vehicle.

I’ve exhausted other options:

I reached out to Kenn Motors in Ottawa, Illinois. They recommended a goal of $15,000 to cover one of their two most affordable used SUVs/vans in stock, plus tax, title, plates, the first 6 months of insurance, and all GoFundMe/bank transfer fees.

Every dollar raised will go directly to my dad’s accounts and be used only for this vehicle. No funds will be used for anything else.

We live on Dad’s fixed income alone. Because of his dementia, I cannot work outside the home, and our slow internet prevents remote work. We’re doing everything we can to keep him safe and healthy at home, but we desperately need a dependable vehicle to get him to the doctor.
