Support Reina Flores Cabrera's Family After Fire

On Sunday, September 1st, Reina Flores Cabrera and her family woke up to their house on fire. The lot next-door was constructing a three-story apartment building. That building caught on fire and spilled over to their home, destroying the roof and other parts of the house. The house where Reina, her husband, four daughters, and 10 year old son lived, is now uninhabitable.

Now they must search and pay for a rental while continuing to pay the mortgage on the burnt home. One car was also completely destroyed with a 2nd one damaged.

Reina Flores is a beloved community member. She is a lead steward at Corazon de la Gente Community Farm. She helps 27 families grow food, using sustainable practices and promoting ancestral seeds. She has lived in South Central Los Angeles for nearly 30years and her and her family are an integral part of the community.

El 1 de septiembre, Reina Flores y su familia despertaron al ver su casa en llamas. El lote al lado estaba construyendo unos apartamentos de tres pisos. Esos apartamentos que no se terminaban de construir, tuvo un incendio. El fuego brincó a la casa de Reina, destruyendo el techo y varias habitaciones. La casa donde vivía con su esposo, 4 hijas, y su niño de 10 años, ya no es habitable.

Ahora su familia tiene que buscar un lugar para rentar, mientras siguen pagando los pagos de la casa que se incendio. También se destruyó un coche y hubieron daños a un segundo coche.

Reina es promotora de Siembra en el Jardín Comunitario corazón de la Gente. Apoya a 27 familias a sembrar frutas y verduras y es promotora de ecología y plantas ancestrales. Tiene casi 30 años viviendo en Sur Centro. Ella y su familia son una parte integral de la comunidad.
