Hey Everyone!
I need your help. It is SO HARD for me to ASK for help and even harder to ACCEPT help.
My Mom, Regina Wiechman, took an ambulance ride to the ER at HCMC on Tuesday. She went downhill fast, She didn’t even fight the paramedics! Shortly after she got into the ER, she was intubated because of respiratory distress. She has been on the vent since. They took X-rays and such and found air and inflammation in her abdomen. She was rushed to surgery to find out what's going on.
So. She’s REALLY REALLY sick. She is septic.
She has a perforated bowel. How did THAT happen?
Well, she had 2 hernias—one next to her small intestines, and another in her diaphragm. A small section of her small intestine poked through and got crimped. The crimped part died, and all the bowel contents started spilling into her abdomen. The second hernia allowed the bowel contents up into the rib cage around her heart and lungs. What??? Somehow it made its way up through her diaphragm and AROUND HER LUNGS? This is like a horror scene in a bad movie!
She's had 3 surgeries in 3 days. They ended up taking almost all of her small intestines and kept cleaning her out. She has a chest tube and lots of tubes going in and out. The long and the short is... if she were ever able to pull through this, she couldn't move back home. She won't be able to eat or drink anything, She will have TPN (IV nutrition). She will not be able to breathe on her own, and will have a colostomy bag. She would not want to live like that.
The doctors and nurses are AMAZING and doing all they can. They keep stressing, how bad she is doing. Her limbs are shutting down.
I’m here with Kathy. Instead of prolonging the inevitable, we want her to be comfortable and preserve her dignity. We have chosen to stop life support.
This is the hardest decision we have ever had to make.
Thank you to everyone who has offered to help in all the ways! We REALLY need financial help most of all.
Your donation will help us with her burial costs, medical bills, and navigating what we have to do next for her. ANYTHING will help!
Thank you for loving her! AND helping us through this terrible time. Thank you!
