Please help us raise funds for Reggie the pig's medical expenses!
Reggie and her buddy Sam are both runts from a respected organic CSA farm in eastern Massachusetts. They’ve been lucky enough to find a new home at Whispering Brook Farm & Art Studio in Tolland, CT, where they’ll soon take on a new role as therapeutic farm animals.
Sam has already been neutered, but Reggie still needs to be spayed — a procedure that’s essential for her long-term health and wellbeing. The cost is simply more than a small animal sanctuary can take on alone. Reggie is the ideal age and size for this surgery, and her appointment is already scheduled with a trusted large-animal vet.
Any additional funds will support ongoing care for both Reggie and Sam — including future vet visits, food, and bedding.

Meet Reggie and Sam
Veggie Reggie and Spam Sam are a bonded pair who like to cozy up together in their shared pig hut at night and nest into their house of hay. They both love beets, pumpkins, apples, bananas, and any kind of winter squash. Sam commits himself with 100% intensity and chomps with masterful enthusiasm until every last bit of pumpkin is off the rind. If given an apple, Reggie likes to make a run for it so she can enjoy her coveted snack in the privacy of their hut.
Reggie is the more affectionate of the two, and likes to lean against my legs, or nose at Sam when he's lying down. Sam seems to put up with it, but is quick to submit to belly rubs no matter the terrain, even if it means splaying over the tough stalks of last season's broccoli.
We love them.
About Whispering Brook Farm & Animal Sanctuary
Whispering Brook Farm & Art Studio is a small, heart-centered sanctuary that combines animal care with creative, therapeutic programming. The farm provides a peaceful home for rescued animals and offers visitors a chance to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the calming presence of animals in a safe, structured environment. Their art studio and farm-based therapy programs support a diverse population of people of all ages, especially those seeking grounding, emotional healing, or gentle sensory experiences.
The farm is located within a private tract of the Joshua's Trust, northeastern Connecticut's largest land trust, which has preserved and protected undeveloped land and historic sites since its founding in 1966.
Whispering Brook is a place built on compassion, creativity, land stewardship, and community. Reggie and Sam will be joining a setting where they are not only cared for, but where their presence actively contributes to the healing and well-being of others.
Why spay a female pig?
Spaying a female pig is one of the most important things you can do for her long-term health and well-being. Intact females are at high risk for life-threatening reproductive diseases, including uterine tumors, ovarian cysts, and dangerous uterine infections like pyometra. These conditions are extremely common in unspayed pigs—often developing silently until they become emergencies. Spaying eliminates those risks entirely, helps prevent hormone-driven stress behaviors, and allows her body to age in a healthier, more stable way.
It also supports a safer, more peaceful environment for everyone around her. Intact females can experience significant hormonal swings during heat cycles, which may lead to irritability, reactivity, and occasional aggression. This can be stressful not only for her companion pig, Sam, but also for the clients and visitors who interact with the animals during farm-based therapy sessions. Spaying reduces these hormonal fluctuations, helping her remain calm, predictable, and comfortable—creating a safer, more therapeutic atmosphere for all. You can read more on this here .
We hope you'll consider supporting Reggie's health expenses so she can go on to live a comfortable life with her pal Sam!
Many thanks,
