Support Reggie's Chemo Journey

Hi all! Reggie (Reginald Seamus Donovan) will have some expensive chemotherapy treatments coming up. We know times may be hard in this uncertain economy, and if you can’t contribute we love you and completely understand. Anything helps.

Last weekend our dog Reggie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive type of cancer common in older bigger dogs, in his back leg and sustained a pathological fracture of which would never heal. Luckily with the cancer isolated to the leg, he was a great candidate for amputation and chemo due to his presentation and being otherwise healthy and pain free. Reggie had his leg amputated this past week, and is doing great on his road to recovery! Before putting our dog through this, we had to weigh the pros and cons and ensure we were doing right by him. Through discussions after our vets assessments and our own research, we learned that amputation for dogs is less traumatic than for us humans, and won’t prevent quality of life in Reggie’s case. Dogs adapt extremely fast to a lost limb, don’t experience phantom pain and often don’t realize the leg is gone. The recovery post sugery is only 2 weeks, and then he will be back to his favorite things (with some fun adaptive equipment here and there). Reggie is already adjusting amazingly, playing and walking without issue. With amputation and chemo, on average dogs can live up to 9 months, however we have heard of cases where dogs exceed this. Reggie wasn’t ready to leave us, and we are relieved to be able to buy him some more time doing all the things he loves with all his favorite humans. Thanks so much for all the love and support!
