My name is Brienne Ahearn, and I'm one of the THOUSANDS of people who has the privilege to call Reena Calm a friend. As roommates in Chicago we grew very close, and like you all, I learned what an incredibly hilarious, brilliant, generous, thoughtful, hard-working, original, and kind person she is. Her support for those she loves is steadfast, and now she needs us to show up for her.

Reena was diagonsed with Endocervical Adenocarcinoma, an aggressive type of cervical cancer, a few weeks ago. She has visited with a capable and thorough oncologist, and is still in the process of going through tests to determine the precise location, severity, and stage of the cancer. She will know more this week about her treatment plan and everything that comes next. It's all happening quickly, and we are thankful for her doctors' sense of urgency to help her beat this thing.

Reena is feeling strong and optimistic because of her indomitable spirit and supportive community— the huge network of friends she has built across the country and beyond. She has healthcare and her employers are being helpful. That said, health insurance coverage in this country is a joke, and she's going to need our financial help to focus on taking care of herself and fighting this battle rather than stressing about treatment and living costs.
