Hi, an update….
This is a quick update and asking if you can give, please do, and if you can’t, please keep us in your continuous prayers. Everyone knows about the 5 strokes, 2 heart attacks, bypass surgery, and open-heart surgery over the last 4 years. Just when I felt like things could be improving, God had other plans. The day before Labor Day, I developed sepsis, and it required surgery to get as much as they could out of my right foot, ankle, and lower leg. They were able to save my leg and foot! After 16 days in the hospital and 65 days of laying in bed, I'm once again on the road to recovery! Having to learn to walk again was very painful after not walking or even putting any weight on my feet for all of that time. Having sepsis is not for the faint of heart considering 54 percent of people who develop sepsis die, and yet God once again kept me here. The sepsis came from a simple tooth extraction. If that wasn’t enough, I then developed a secondary bacterial infection a little over a week ago, but at least it’s not sepsis again. I hope it will be gone by the end of this week. Once it’s gone, I hope to start physical therapy once again to help with and improve my walking and overall general balance.
Our life had become somewhat routine once the disability was approved. Between it and Michelle working, we ended up with just under $200 a month extra. It is and was existing, which was fine. The ultimate goal was for me to return to work. Then God said, let’s see how you deal with sepsis. You would think with 2 different insurances you would still not end up with a mountain of medical bills, but after 16 days in the hospital and surgery, we ended up with $8964 being our part, sadly. The secondary infection added a medicine that insurance didn’t cover to the tune of $694. Physical therapy out of pocket after insurance, we found out yesterday, is going to be $3140.
It is just staggering. I am asking for help to continue on in this journey of the last 4 years and praying for light at the end of what has been a train wreck. Any help, large or small, all adds up and helps more than you know! For some folks, this is nothing; for us, it’s overwhelming.
