Hi, I'm Chester Morris, and with the endorsement of the President of the Moravian Church in Jamaica, Rev. Barrington Daley, I’m reaching out to you today to support the Camp Hope Jamaica Association Incorporated.

Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 Hurricane, made landfall in New Hope, Westmoreland, the site of our Moravian Camp (Camp Hope). Camp Hope Jamaica Association Inc. seeks to raise funds to assist in the restoration of Camp Hope and the other church buildings impacted by the hurricane. For more than 60 years, Camp Hope has been a place of learning and adventure for our children and young people. The building has been damaged by the hurricane, with all windows blown out, bedding destroyed, and sections of the roof destroyed.

The President of the Church reports that 34 of 37 church buildings were affected, with 5 completely destroyed. The Jamaica Province of the Moravian Church has 65 congregations in total, so with 37 affected, the overall impact on the church is significant. The roofs of all manses were blown off, which resulted in added challenges for the pastoral leadership to exercise ministry at the level they desired and for them to be directly involved in the day-to-day relief within the communities.
