Support Recovery for our Homestead after Hurricane Helene

On September 26, 2024 Hurricane Helene landed at our sweet homestead outside of Black Mountain, North Carolina. Bringing with it record setting floods and torrential downpour, the effects of this storm will be felt substantially by all of us. We moved to Black Mountain 2 years ago and have been spending a lot of time and effort building our homestead since we arrived.

This fundraiser will help us (the Klaus Haus) raise money to rebuild the erosion damage and surrounding damage to our homestead in the mountains outside of Asheville, NC.

We are so grateful that our family is safe and healthy at this time and that we have access to both food and water.

As a family of 5 and growing (Phoebe is 5 months pregnant) we have felt the effects of the storm strongly on our site. Our family consists of Adam, Phoebe, Liliana (18), Bodhi (17), Marcel (15), 2 dogs (along with our farm animals- 4 pigs, 40 hens, and 35 chicks)

Our in process home site has suffered damage surrounding it in the form of massive erosion. 12 or so large oak trees fell (roots and all) and damaged many of the structures on our site. Our solar system was crushed completely by 2 large trees (we are off grid so this is a necessity for us).

Phoebe's acupuncture clinic currently is shut off from the outside world with limited power and is being used to act as an emergency space for individuals in need.

We are reliant on the land here to provide the bulk of our food (meat, fat, starches) and the amount of erosion and flooding has caused damage to our silvopasture, we are not sure how or when it will recover.

The trees on the road cause significant damage to our driveway which will place stress on our ability to finish our home site in time for the baby to come.

We are asking for help with rebuilding our homestead after this hurricane rampaged through. Please help if you can and please pass the message along if you can't help.

Funds will be spent specifically on: rebuilding the roads into our homestead, rebuilding our solar system, renting machinery to take care of the erosion on our home site and our silvopasture farm lands, rebuilding a water system that can handle a big storm like this, and helping to pay for labor to help us with all of the work that is needed.
