Help Me Get Back on My Feet After 5 Years of Medical Struggles
Hi, my name is DamonConaway, and I’m reaching out to ask for help during one of the hardest times of my life.
For almost five years, I’ve been suffering from venous stasis wounds on my legs — painful, chronic wounds that made it extremely difficult to walk, work, or live normally. It took years of appointments, misdiagnoses, and frustration before doctors finally discovered the real issue: a 40% blockage in my veins.
I live in Huntsville, Alabama, but unfortunately, doctors here weren’t able to provide the care I needed. I was finally referred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where they were able to diagnose and treat me properly. They placed stents in my veins, which have made a world of difference.
After 9 surgeries and years of pain and uncertainty, I’m finally on the road to recovery.
My legs have healed, and for the first time in a long time, I can move without constant pain.
But while my health is improving, my financial situation has gotten desperate.
Over the last 4.5 years, I would work for a few months at a time before another health issue would put me out of commission. This last flare-up left me unable to work for 9 months, and now I’m behind on everything:
Car payments
Electric bills (our power is on the verge of being shut off)
Rent and other essentials
I'm currently trying to return to work through my union, but the process is slow, with paperwork going back and forth. I’ve been medically cleared, but I'm still waiting for the final approvals to get back on the job.
Right now, my family and I are on the verge of losing everything.
I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d have to ask for help like this — but here I am, doing just that. If you’re able to give anything, no matter how small, it would help us keep the lights on, keep our home, and give me the breathing room to make it back to work.
If you can't donate, please consider sharing this campaign. Your support means more than you know.
Thank you to the amazing team at Vanderbilt for giving me a second chance — and thank you to everyone reading this for giving me hope.
With gratitude,
Damon Conaway
