I went outside to get something out of my car during the night and tripped on a pothole. I walked straight through the grass to my apartment as I usually do.. This time I stumbled across that pothole and my arm split in half. It was barely hanging on and I had to have 7hrs of surgery. I laid there unable to get up blood pouring out as my life flashed before my eyes. Never in my life I thought I would see my arm in this condition. I broke my artery and had to remove a vein from my leg. I had a big laceration the whole way across my elbow. The elbow was open and dislocated and really unstable. The medial collateral ligament that keeps my elbow stable had been ripped off. The orthopedic surgeon put in an internal brace that is like a hinge that holds the elbow safe and stable and reconstructed my ligaments. Another surgeon made sure that the median nerve was ok and took a piece of vein from my thigh 5in long and rebuilt the brachial artery and improved the blood flow to my hand. Which I could not feel when I came into the emergency room. This happened on Sunday(Nov 9) and I am hopeful for a release at the end of this week. I will not be able to work and the recovery will be 2-3months. I also do not have health insurance. I am so very stressed and I am asking anyone who is able to contribute to the ongoing medical bills and expenses to come. I appreciate everyone who has been there for me through this process and all the support I’ve had so far. I am trying to stay strong through this traumatic moment in my life. As someone who works in the service industry this is extremely debilitating. I am in so much pain and so very forever thankful for all who are willing to help me through this difficult time in my life.
