On March 31 and April 1, several employees of SagaCity Media (myself included) were informed that they would be laid off immediately without severance, payout of PTO, or any other financial accommodations or benefits (including insurance). Hour Media acquired the company through a receivership, and chose to lay off several members of the editorial staff as they took control of the company. Some of these employees are the sole breadwinners for their families, have children, and/or have ongoing health issues or disabilities. Considering the lack of notice or severance, we're hoping to raise some funds to help cushion the blow of this sudden loss of income.
