Support Rebecca's Fight Against Brain Cancer

Darlea and Tristram Little are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Ryan and Rebecca Harry.

For those who don’t know Rebecca’s story: This past summer, Rebecca was complaining about headaches. Also, she was having seizures and got her license taken away. One night the headaches became so bad that Ryan rushed her to the ER. It was here that they learned the devastating news that Rebecca has anaplastic astrocytoma (grade III). Anaplastic astrocytoma is a rare, malignant brain tumor that arises from astrocytes, the supportive cells in the nervous system.

Rebecca has started initial treatment, which includes 30 days of radiation and 42 days of chemo straight through (the radiation takes place on weekdays and the chemo on weekends and holidays). Then she will have one month off, followed by chemo five days a month for one year. Unless the doctors think another round of radiation would be effective, but that’s rare.

Ryan is being laid off from work so he can be at home with her 24/7. He will drive her to her appointments, take care of the kids, and be there for Rebecca for anything she needs. They are learning how to find a new normal, which is incredibly scary. As parents of small children, we cannot imagine how a diagnosis like this would affect our family.

Ryan and Rebecca are proud people who don’t want to ask for help, but we know they could use our support. Luckily, we live in Canada, and Ryan has extended healthcare, so treatment and medication are covered. However, Ryan will have to pre-pay his extended healthcare for continued coverage while he is laid off. In addition, EI will only cover 55% of Ryan’s income for one year. After that, Ryan and Rebecca will not have an income. We ask you to help in any way you can to support Rebecca and Ryan. They will use this money to help cover everything from their mortgage and bills to gas and food, plus any other expenses that may come up.
