Hi, most of you already know me, I’m guessing. I’m Rebecca. I’m 47 and have 2 amazing kids and a wonderful husband. I also have terminal stage 4 colon cancer that has spread to my lungs and liver.
I was diagnosed in October of 2020 and started taking chemo right away. After 3 years on harsh chemo, struggling and fighting for my life, we got the devastating news that my chemo wasn’t working any more and my doctors said there was nothing more that can be done for me medically. I was told I have 6mos-1 year left to live, and that was 3 months ago.
My husband, Joe, had to leave his lucrative career for a job that allowed him
to work from home to care for me. In March of this year he lost that job with no warning or preamble, and now is working as a bartender on weekends so he can be home with me during the week. We are struggling financially, and there is no end in sight. He can’t work in his chosen field and give me the care I need at home. It’s an impossible situation without some help from outside sources.
I am now on home hospice care and can feel myself slowing down physically each week that goes by. I can’t care for our 6 year old daughter on my own any more, and need constant help with that. It breaks my heart that I’ll have to leave her soon; we haven’t told her yet because I don’t want to steal away her happiness. My older son is a student in San Antonio and can’t help as much as he’d like to because airfare is expensive.
Bills are piling up and Joe is working as hard as he can to keep us afloat and also spend the precious time we have left together, with me.
Any funds we receive will be used to pay for our living expenses, my medical care, airfare for my son to visit me, and for my family to be together while we still can.
