Support Rebecca Jean Bejarano's Eye Cancer Battle

As many of you are aware, I have the best mother, Rebecca Jean Bejarano, on planet Earth. For the last year or so, she's been having issues with a mass in her left eye. Her vision in that eye has been blurry with large floaters, dizziness and pain in said eye. She addressed it with her doctor right away. They initially thought it was nothing to worry about. They did a two procedures to shrink the mass, but her vision has slowly been getting worse. Last week, she had surgery on that eye to repair some tears and do two biopsies. She saw her doctor today and got back the results from the first biopsy. Unfortunately, the results came back positive. The mass is a malignant neoplasm in her choroid, the layer of tissue between her retina and sclera.

As far as next steps go, we're scared, but feeling optimistic. Her doctor scheduled a flurry of tests to ensure that the melanoma hasn't spread. Beyond that, she has two options. She can either treat the eye with aggressive radiation or remove it. We are going with option one because her doctor feels good about it and we aren't ready to put that beautiful blue eye to pasture.

It is with great humility and gratitude that I ask for your help to get us through the next few months. The radiation treatment will take place in San Francisco at the University of California San Francisco's Department of Radiation Oncology and will last roughly two weeks. And while her insurance is covering a portion of the medical bills, the costs that they aren't covering are piling up and this has greatly affected her ability to work moving forward.

My mother is the strongest person that I know. Life has thrown some of the cruelest curveballs her way and she's handled them with grace and the best attitude. I know that she's going to show this cancer who's boss. Whether you're able to share this fundraiser or contribute to it, we are eternally grateful.
