**Update: The executor is asking us to be out of my brother’s house by the end of the month. We need immediate help!

My name is Rebecca Yelland. The purpose of this fundraiser is to provide the moving expenses needed for myself (64) and my daughter Kate (35) to move back home to the west coast for better opportunities, connections and medical care. (Read about our story below.)

Until 2019, I was employed as a HR professional and my daughter as a Librarian. After working hard for 10 post divorce years to become debt free and secure six months of savings, our world has fallen apart with a series of medical/financial hits.

First, with my cancer, followed by covid, resulting in long term unemployment issues due to being immune compromised. Our savings was quickly wiped out in the process along with our credit. I was left with only a small social security survivor benefit. But my daughter still had her full time income. So we buckled down our budget until I was able to return to work - which never came.

Then in 2023, Kate suffered a mini stroke that resulted in a temporary loss of vision. Multiple tests and procedures revealed the devasting news that she had a rare arterial & vascular disease (affecting only 1-3 people per million) with 70% blockage in her left carotid artery and 100% in her right. She was no longer able to work and has been receiving aggressive drug therapy to prevent the disease from becoming worse. This is a life long struggle with no cure.

The loss of her librarian income crushed our finances. She has been repeatedly denied SSDI (even with legal assistance) and only able to receive a small state disability benefit that we have recently learned will end this February. We can't take another financial cut like this. I have been searching for work with over a 100 applications and no offers. The break during my cancer & covid, along with my age, have seriously affected my ability to secure employment. Even Walmart won't hire me.

*At the time of Kate's diagnosis, a previous gofundme was set up while we awaited a final SSDI determination - never expecting for it to be denied. The donations allowed us to stay in our apartment until our lease was up last April. Since then, we have been staying with a relative who is inpatient to see us leave.

We have suffered additional set backs as well during these past 8 months. Including the rehoming of our precious cat and the loss of our items in storage due to mold damage. We are down to just the items we can store in the small room we share at my relative's house.

All of this stress has seriously impacted my daughter's health. The combination of specialists and medical treatment is taking a heavy toll on her mental and physical health as well as my own. We need a long term plan instead of drowning in this rural area. The only decision we can make to survive (after researching EVERY possible option) is to get back to the west coast. Otherwise, we will be homeless after February. That's not an option neither one of us can handle.

This is just a quick summary of the events leading to creating this fundraiser. We have only one option left. And that is a fresh start back in familiar ground. Please help us get there.

Thank you for listening!
