Support Reagan's Medical School Journey!

Hello! My name is Reagan and I’m requesting assistance with my medical school application fees ❤️

After graduating from Stanford University in 2020, I moved to Washington, DC to begin a career in sexual and reproductive health care. My professional work in DC has focused on implementing Black-led HIV prevention programs, advocating for harm reduction-informed local policy, and providing community services at a local hospice for unhoused people living with HIV. Outside of work, I organize with the DecrimPovertyDC campaign , which seeks to decriminalize substance use and launch a 24-hour overdose prevention center in DC. I hope to further my work by applying to medical school this June and eventually becoming a primary care provider. Ultimately, I want to integrate my medical education and organizing experience to build anti-carceral solutions to health crises that interrupt the criminalization of patients and honor the humanity of each member of our communities.

At the start of 2023, I had enough savings to cover the cost of applications. However, an unexpected financial emergency has depleted my savings. The non-profit I work for, the Washington AIDS Partnership , announced in February that it will close at the end of the year. Knowing that the organization is only able to keep me through the end of May, I began looking for employment opportunities that will begin on June 1st. I found a job as a research assistant for a sexual health program at Northwestern University , and I’m looking forward to moving to Chicago and starting this new chapter! Unfortunately, my landlord in DC has refused to allow me to sublet the apartment. I have made repeated inquiries to him but he has refused to change his position. I contacted local tenants' rights offices in DC, but they informed me that there was nothing they could do. Because of this, I will have to pay rent for my house in DC AND my apartment in Chicago for May and June. This will effectively decimate my savings, and leave me unable to apply to medical school without incurring significant financial debt. I applied for the AAMC’s Financial Assistance program and was denied.
