Support Raymond 'Flip' Johnson's Recovery Journey
Hi, my name is Raymond "Flip" Johnson.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story.
If you know me, you know I've always believed in helping others.
I thank my mom for that—she raised me with a heart full of love, compassion, and purpose. I miss her dearly, and I carry her lessons with me every day. I've mentored kids through dance, coached youth sports, and handed out socks and soup to the homeless every holiday. With the kids in my life, I believe if you teach charity early, you change their lives. I will always roll up my sleeves and help. I also created an annual swim across the East River in NYC but haven't been able to in the last few years due to pandemic restrictions. But giving myself about a year to retrain and organize my event for St. Jude's. I've also swam for a great organization called S.A.A. (Swim Across America) down the Hudson River with Gold Medalist Rowdy Gaines. Great guy, his baby girl was a better swimmer than me. Lol. Everybody was, but I completed the hours-long swim. Thank God.
But now I find myself in unfamiliar territory—I'm the one who needs help.
In early June, I went to the emergency room for what felt like a simple stomach ache. After the X-rays that evening, I was in surgery the following morning for what was a tumor and blocked intestines. The surgery went well—thank God—and while I was still healing, I found out the tumor was stage two cancer. I am beyond grateful for all my medical staff; they removed the entire tumor. No meds or chemo, just regular checkups and recovery. But the road back hasn't been easy. I lost a lot of weight—down to just 90 pounds after surgery, but at 125 at the time of this healing process. But I can't fully return to the kids or all our field trips or coaching, which is hurting me every day. Right now, I am struggling. Bills are stacking up; my rent here in NY is $1,895.00 per month. I've been blessed to be able to cover for a little while. I really need help keeping things afloat. I've canceled prescriptions, Netflix, Hulu, Credit Karma, etc. Lol. If you can please help with anything, it will add up.
Thanks for your support and help for just reading my present issues. I look forward to doing what's necessary to get better, not only for me but for all I love.
With a humble heart, I say thanks.
