Raul joined the team at Voz Workers’ Rights Education as a day laborer in September 2020 and joined our staff as a Dispatcher in May 2021. As Dispatcher, he has intimate hands-on knowledge of the work that employers request. His knowledge paired with deep care for our day laborers means he knows how to ask the right questions, negotiate a fair rate, convey the type of work between parties, and translate any clarification seamlessly.
On December 20th, 2022 at 6am, Raul was on his way to work at the Voz Worker Center when he was detained by ICE. By 3pm that day, Voz staff, partner organizations, and community members met outside of the ICE offices on Macadam Ave, however, by the end of the day, Raul was transferred to Tacoma Immigration Detention Center. He is currently waiting for a response to his Stay of Removal request.
Raul is a father, grandfather, friend, certified recovery peer mentor, mechanic, community organizer, and more. Raul’s detention has left an enormous gap in the organization and the community as a whole.
Help us raise $5,000.00 for Raul and his family. During these last few months, Raul has lost wages and has been unable to support his family. With the unknown future, he needs these funds desperately.
If you could please donate and/or share, it will be greatly appreciated!
