Hello, I am Nisreen Alnahhal. I launched this campaign to call for help from my friend and sister-in-law Rasha Mahdi, her child, and her husband Ahmed, who are still in northern Gaza, to escape this threat of death at every moment.
Read the story to know more about Rasha's story & her current situation.
My name is Rasha Mahdi, and I'm reaching out from Gaza with a heavy heart. I am a mother just trying to keep my family safe. We used to have a simple, happy life with my husband Ahmed, and our child, Saeed. But now, everything's turned upside down because of the war. We've had to move 14 times in five months, trying to escape the bombings. It has been terrifying and exhausting.
Ahmed, my husband, is a clothing merchant and owns a women's clothing shop in Gaza. Ahmed lost his job and the shop was completely destroyed. We were left without a source of income and without shelter because our house was partially damaged as well.
Ahmed was detained for 45 days. They were 45 days of death, fatigue, and thinking about him day and night. Is he still alive? Did they torture him? How did he look like? ...and many questions mixed with heartbreak.
Ahmed came out having lost 20 kilograms. He came out with inflammation of the nerves in his feet. He remained shackled throughout the period of imprisonment, was denied food, and was tortured with all forms of torture.
Ahmed came out and my spirit came back to me again, but my joy was not complete, as they released him in the south of Gaza and I was in the north. I have not seen him for nearly 130 days, and I have not seen my family (my mother, father, sisters, and brothers) for nearly 170 days too.
Saeed, my little child. He is two years old. I was hoping that he would have a normal childhood like any child in this world.
Whenever he hears the sound of bombing nearby, he gets terrified and runs between my legs and hides, puts his hands over his ears and starts crying. He is unaware of what is happening around him, but he felt all kinds of fear and terror. I always try to make him feel safe and try to hide my tears from him. I wish I could put him indise my heart and protect him. He recently started talking with small words, speaking to me with words full of innocence and fear, and he continue to ask me about his father.
I always think about my child and our inhuman life, no food or clean water. Saeed has been infected with pinworm, weeks have passed and he does not sleep at night and screams unnaturally. I try to calm him in every way, but to no avail. I cry with him every day and night, and my heart breaks for my child as he suffers in front of me, and I don’t know what is causing his pain, as there are no hospitals or doctors to consult.
We're in a really tough spot, facing dangers like never before—death, hunger, you name it. But we haven't lost hope. We're trying to get to Egypt for safety and to start over. To do that, we need €25,000. This money will help us travel, get the medical help we need, and find a place to live.
We need your support to evacuate from the war in Gaza as quickly as possible and it is going to be through Rafah Crossing, and being in this unfortunate war it is not going to be easy as we need €25,000.
€12,500 for the coordination fees to cross the border ($5000 for each adult and $2500 for my son Saeed).
€200 for the crossing fees at the Rafah border.
€8000 for the life requirements in Egypt (rent, food, transportation, ext..) for 3 months until being able to afford life there.
€1000 for my son's treatment.
the rest is To cover GoFundMe transaction fees(2.9%+$0.3 per donation) and money transformation from the organizer account in France to Rasha's & her family.
Every little bit you can spare will make a huge difference for us. It's not just about money; it's about giving us a chance to live without fear and to have a future. We're so thankful for any help you can give and if you can share our story, that would mean the world to us.
Thank you so much for listening and for your support.
Best wishes,
Rasha Mahdi
