My name is Tiffany Robinson and I'm fundraising for my husband's double lung transplant.
Life changed for our family in January of 2008. While working as a railroad conductor, Rashad became very ill with what we initially thought was the flu. After having a chest x-ray completed at the doctor's office, he was immediately sent to the hospital where he was admitted and placed on a ventilator for 15 days. It was during this time that he was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis. Although his lung condition was severe enough at that time to be considered for transplant, he was only 27 years old and outside of his lungs... he was otherwise healthy. By the Grace and Mercy of GOD and the remarkable care that he receives from the physicians at Duke Hospital, Rashad has been able to live the last 16 years of his life with his severely diseased native lungs. Recently the disease has progressed to where he is now living with only 10% lung capacity, and he is reliant on oxygen 24 hours a day. He is now eligible for a double lung transplant, and this is where we could use your help!
Why We Need Your Help
While most of Rashad's medical bills are covered by insurance, he will need assistance with his essential costs and living expenses both while awaiting to be transplanted as well as post-surgery. Rashad's recovery will require round-the-clock care, which means that I will also have to take time off work to support him. Your donations will help cover out-of-pocket expenses, which are extensive throughout the first year of transplant recovery and will ensure that Rashad gets the care and support he needs to make a full recovery.
Who is Rashad and Why Should You Care?
Rashad is a loving husband, and father. He is the single most resilient person that I know. Despite the medical challenges he's faced over the last 20 years, his spirit and his smile have never wavered. Rashad is the guy who lights up any room he enters and makes friends with everyone he meets. He electrifies everyone around him with his own enthusiasm for life and adventure. Always ready with a "fun fact" or a joke for anyone who will listen and has the sincerest empathy for others. Rashad consistently shows up when his loved ones need a helping hand.
How You Can Help
Every donation, no matter the size will make a significant difference in Rashad's upcoming journey. This fundraiser will pay for medical expenses, lodging, caregiver transportation and living expenses for 3 months post hospital discharge as we are required to live locally for frequent follow-ups. If you are unable to contribute financially, please consider sharing this campaign to help spread the word and bring us closer to our goal!
Please note that GoFundMe takes a percentage of donations. If it's more comfortable for you, feel free to donate through GoFundMe or we would also be happy to provide you with Rashad's Zelle information. Thank you so much for your generosity and support. All the well wishes and prayers mean more to us than words can express.
Thank you,
The Robinsons
