Support Randy's Urgent Surgery

As some of you may have heard already ,

“ Last Friday Randy got rear ended , he was fine but had some pain in his neck & back, so went by ambulance to the ER, once there he had a CT which was clear for any injury from the MVA. But we were given the very unexpected news that they found a very large “Mass” on his pituitary gland. After an MRI we were told he had a very large tumor, filling his sinus cavities, pushing into his optic nerve & Brain. The doctor there didn’t even know who or where to send him too as nobody in Asheville does this type of surgery. After alot of debating it was decided we would go to Wake Forest to see Surgical Oncology / Neurosurgeon.

We saw Wake Forest this morning and it has been determined that we need this taken out as it is larger then they originally thought, first we will need to see an ENT surgeon at Wake( because they will both do surgery together). They will take out as much as they can, though some is in a cavity with nerves & arteries and is too dangerous to cut into. He is expected to be in the hospital for 4 days, and have a 6-8 week recovery. At 6 weeks we will have another CT to see if the part that is left has grown and at that point we will decide if he needs to have radiation. It’s going to be a long process.”

As you could imagine, with little time to prepare for him being out of work to recover this will impact their family beyond the emotional aspect . Being out of work for potentially two months will be a significant loss of income for them. I hope this will help to alleviate some of the worry in this Uncertain and unexpected time for them.
